Macintosh Java 1.4.1 Layout Problems

(Apple problem #3455084)

When this applet is run using Macintosh Java 1.4.x there are problems:

  1. The text in the TextArea gets clipped at ends of some lines and the slider starts out half way through the text.
  2. Components such as the title (orange) overlap other components (e.g. green).
  3. Text on lines such as those on the green panel get clipped although there is enough space.
  4. The two buttons that should appear in the lower part of the applet (on a yellow panel) do not appear.

These problems do not occur in other environments, such as other OS X browsers running Java 1.3 and Sun's 1.4 for Windows.  The problems occur in both Safari and Applet Launcher running Java 1.4.x.

Clicking Safari's "Reload" button does not fix the problem, but clicking Safari's "Previous Page" button followed by clicking the "Next Page" button fixes all but #1.
