Macintosh Java Bugs
This page lists some bugs affecting the latest version Java on Macintosh OS
X that is available without signing a nondisclosure agreement. Apparent responsibility for each bug is shown
as bold. You are welcome to add your
bug reports to this table if they meet the criteria listed below. Note
that Java 1.5 is used only by the Safari and Firefox browsers (Internet Explorer
uses Java 1.3); see Configuration Test
if needed.

Bug |
Criteria for including a bug in this table (contact
Mickey Segal to list a bug):
- Public: The bug must be described on a Web page to which this page
can link.
- Working examples: The bug should be demonstrated with a working
example, typically an applet, ideally a program so tiny that it is easy to
analyze the bug.
- Source code: Source code should be given, unless there is a strong
reason not to do so.
- Current: The bug must be present in the latest version of the
software available to regular users. An applet that reports your
current configuration is at this link
(requires JavaScript). Bugs in OS 9 that are resolved in OS X are
listed at this link.
- Linked: The Web page about the bug should have a link to the
list here.
- Reported: The bug must be reported through an official bug report
channel or you must be in the process of preparing such a report. This page is a supplement to the official process meant to
make the reports more accessible; it is not a replacement for the official
process. The bug report number should be listed on the Web page so as
to assist people from the relevant company in finding your official bug
report starting from the public version. If the bug occurs in Apple
Launcher it can be presumed to be Apple's bug and reported only to Apple.
- Apple bug reports: report to Apple
bug reporter or use bug reporting built into the program, if
available.
- Firefox / Mozilla bugs: report to Mozilla
bugs using a recent Mozilla build.
- Microsoft Internet Explorer bugs: not much point reporting these as
Microsoft is not producing new versions.
- Responsibility:
- Testing in various environments and keeping that information up to
date is the responsibility of the reporter.
- Contact information for the reporter should be provided.
However, be warned that automated programs exist that harvest e-mail
addresses from publicly available pages such as these. It is
prudent to obfuscate the e-mail address in some way. The bug report should be updated to include workarounds if these are found.
